About the Group

We are a collaborative group of industry professionals working to adopt the Language Metadata Table (LMT) as the standard for language tagging in the Inflight Entertainment Ecosystem. Our mission is to ensure consistent, scalable, and accessible content delivery across airlines and platforms.

Our Purpose

• Recommend that Inflight Entertainment supply chains adopt approved LMT codes in all transactions where languages are specified.
• Identify resources to validate any LMT codes before use.
• Identify (or provide) dictionary resources to convert from LMT codes to legacy (Vendor Specific) ISO-639 variants.
• Publish an ‘APEX minimum requirement’, defining support for 50 languages.
• Establish a convention to define the role of a language asset (avoiding any corruption/extension of LMT language code).
• Role definitions may include: Spoken Dialog, Audio Description, Subtitle, Caption, etc.
• Publish a (non-binding) timeframe for the principal IFE partners to adopt LMT language codes.

Why Language Metadata Matters

Proper language metadata ensures accurate display of language options, improves accessibility, and enables better automation and content delivery in diverse inflight environments. The LMT provides a robust framework for tagging spoken and subtitle languages consistently.
